Rachel Ann Hoover: Fractions of my life

You can find out the most about me just from reading this journal. I tend to impart a lot of detailed personal information in my entries. Don't look here for stupid little things about myself, like my favorite color, my favorite food or which shoe I put on first.

I'm currently a junior in college, majoring in Psychology and Art. I have a strange and sudden urge to get a degree or certificate in Computer Science, or Web Design. I have two jobs, one at the campus library and one as the web designer / web assistant for the art department. Yes, I'm living the dream.

You could say I'm a (wannabe) Renaissance woman, because I do a little bit of everything. I write various things (songs, poems, prose, stories), I'm an artist, I can dance somewhat, I sing and play guitar, I'm trying to learn other instruments, I just learned how to program in C++, I've been a web designer / website builder since about my senior year of high school, I love doing arts and crafts, I take a lot of pictures, I used to be interested in acting and have experience working stage lights and sound from high school, I work in a library so I know a lot about books and library processing and customer service, I love watching movies (particularly horror films), I like the idea of making my own home-made movies some day,.. I could go on like this.

I took 4 years of French in high school, and am trying to reclaim some of that knowledge. I also want to visit Paris someday.

I'm a generic Europian-American caucasian, but I have kind of interesting stories. My mother is 100% Polish, but completely unethnic. My grandparents are both Polish (duh) but they are also fairly unethnic and I believe were born here. My grandpa served in WWII, but didn't fight. My grandma has claimed we're related to Polish royalty.

My dad is a big mix of things. The main thing, is we're Swiss. My last name, Hoover, came from the name Huber. It was changed when my ancestors came to America. No, I have nothing to do with the Hoover vacuum company or J Edgar. But, Herbert Hoover (the infamous president) is a distant cousin of mine so take that. As a double whammy, my dad's mother claims her family is related to Benedict Arnold. And I'm damn proud, whether or not it's true.

I also want to visit Switzerland someday.

I like all types of music, but I'm picky in each category. Classic rock, Indie rock, Indie pop, Grunge, Riot grrl, New wave, Dance, Alt country, and the ever popular GOOD category. Oh, singer-songwriters too.
